Use these tips to enhance your website

404-error-handling

Rotating banner - one image a day - 7 days a week
Sometimes I take part in the discussion on a few forums, one of which is facilitated by the Web Host where I have parked my website and a couple of blogs. One participant wanted to know if it was possible to have a script that will display a different image on each of the seven days of the week. It should then start again for the next week and so on. So then it would depend on the day of the week. She said she has seven images with given hyperlinks and the target must be set to _blank.

CSS (Cascade Style Sheet) - You can have the simplest possible implementation of CSS. Create a file in MS Notepad and call it styles.css or anything else but the extension has to be css. FTP it to your web server. The contents of a basic css file are:

A:visited {text-decoration: none; color: blue;}
A:hover {text-decoration: none; color: green;}
A:active {text-decoration: none; color: blue;}
</style>

Add the following link between <head> and </head> tags which should be in all content files.

<link href="http://www.YourDomainName/styles.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">

Now, if you want to expand on your css file, you make the changes and all menus and content files will be affected by those changes. You do not have to do anything else for that matter.

By the way, the css file contains hover. So when you hover mouse over a link, the color changes to that particular color stated in the hover directive.

You can look at my css file by downloading it from my website where the vertical menu is defined by navcontainer and the horizontal by horiztab. You can Copy and Paste it in MS Notepad, make changes to it, save it and upload it to your Web host.

There is another free downloadable utility Windows Grep that helped me a lot while I was testing my website. The UNIX and Linux folks use it all the time. I was unaware that such a utility existed in Windows. The usage is quite simple and self-explanatory.
